Jason Mamoa and Ben Affleck will be reuniting for the Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The announcement was made by Jason Mamoa on his Instagram account by posting a picture of the two with the caption "REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j". The Oscar winner previously announced that he was done with the franchise but it looks like he's had a change of heart.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times he described his experience filming The 'Justice League' as "the nadir for me. That was a bad experience because of a confluence of things: my own life, my divorce, being away too much, the competing agendas and then [director] Zack [Snyder]’s personal tragedy [Snyder’s daughter Autumn died by suicide in 2017] and the reshooting. It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn’t like about this. That became the moment where I said, “I’m not doing this anymore.” It’s not even about, like, “Justice League” was so bad. Because it could have been anything."
The newly wedded actor first played Batman in 2016 in the DC Comics film 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', following up with appearances in 'Suicide Squad' (2016) and 'Justice League' (2017). Affleck is also slated to reprise his role in 'The Flash' (2023) where he will be starring alongside Michael Keaton.
John Robert Pattison recently wore the cape in the latest installment, 'The Batman' (March 4, 2022) after Affleck backed out of directing and starring in the film. Warner Bros. confirmed that a sequel is in the works starring Pattison and directed by Matt Reeves.
The release date is scheduled for March 17, 2023.
