The U. S. Government had made progress in making insulin more easily affordable for the public.
Those on Medicaid who require the medication will now able to purchase it for no more than $35 USD for a month supply under the Inflation Reduction Act.
This news comes after a tweet from a fake Eli Lilly & Co. account announced that the pharmaceutical giant would no longer charge customers for insulin. After the company confirmed the tweet was fake public outrage ensued at the exorbitant prices charged for the drug in the first place.
There are currently more than 34 million people living with diabetes in the United States and another 7 million people that are not yet diagnosed. The cost of insulin in the United States is roughly $100, although newer versions can go as high as $300. These prices are considerably higher than other countries like Canada ($12), the UK ($8.00) and Australia ($7.00).
