ACTIVISTS MOHAMMAD MEHDI KARAMI AND SEYED MOHAMMAD HOSSEINI EXECUTED IN IRAN

January 7, 2023

Two activists convicted by the Iran judiciary have been executed by public hanging in the early morning of January 7, 2022. Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini were found guilty of allegedly killing Ruhollah Ajamian, an Iranian guard volunteer, during demonstrations protesting the death of Mahsa Amini. Their deaths brings the total number of executions to four.

Iran has been widely criticized for lack of transparency during the trials, opting to carry them out behind closed doors with little to no public access or knowledge. Defendants are also unable to pick their own lawyers or review any evidence being brought against them.

The public has been condemning the deaths of the young men including actress Yara Shahadi who posted a picture in tribute of Karami and Hosseini while calling out the injustices in Iran: "🌺REST IN POWER MOHAMMAD MEHDI KARAMI AND SEYED MOHAMMAD HOSSEINI 🌺

🤎 Innocent people and brave protesters have continued to be executed in Iran 🤎as somebody that is constantly reading/listening to the news, I’m so saddened by the sparse and inconsistent news coverage of the protests, the consistent injustices, and loss of life #RestInPower#IranProtests"

There have been reportedly over 13000 arrests and 400 convinctions in Tehran since the protests. Sentences handed out include fines, jail time up to 10 years and death.
