Both Afghan men and women have joined in the protest to fight the ban of university education for women. Professors and students have been marching outside universities with signs including words of God and slogans including "Teach Everyone Or No One" to fight the ban. There have also been resignations and walkouts to help send the message of inequality.
Shortly after the protests the Taliban imposed another ban on women working for NGO's in Afghanistan. Participating in the protests is very dangerous as they are surrounded by gunmen who do not hesitate to taser, beat or arrest those who oppose the new rules.
Afghans around the world have also been protesting the ban in support of the women under Taliban rule.
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, there were fears that the rights of women would be stripped away under the new regime. Under the Islamic rule, basic services have also been under strain as the new government is unable to adequately provide basic services, health care, and economic opportunities. Women are also no longer allowed to attend secondary school, work or travel without a male companion. Child marriages are also on the rise.
