SHORTEST DAY RECORDED AS EARTH IS SPINNING FASTER

August 2, 2022

Earth is spinning faster and scientists are trying to figure out why. The shortest day was recorded on June 29, 2022 when the 24-hour day was completed less 1.59 milliseconds while July 26 ended 1.50 milliseconds sooner.

While it is unsure why the Earth is spinning faster, scientists think there may be a correlation to climate change. Another contributing factor could be 'Chandler wobble', describing the Earth's pole moving at an irregular pace across the globe's surface. The potential effects of this phenomenon could be disastrous, particularly with respect to our technological systems whose software relies on timers, as reported by the New York Post.
