TIKTOK ADDS ONE HOUR SCREEN TIME LIMIT FOR KIDS

March 4, 2023

TikTok has plans to enhance the parental controls on its app by adding a screen control time for children.

Parents will now be able to limit their kids' screen time to one hour. The setting will be controlled by a passcode which will have to be entered if more scrolling time is permitted.

It's an effort made by the social media platform to curb unhealthy attachments to the app by individuals under 18 years of age and provoke more consciousness of how they spend their time on it.

Studies in the U.S. by Pew Research have shown that 1 in 5 teenagers admitted it would be hard to give up social media while 36% of teens say they spend too much time on the apps. The numbers make sense since 95% of teens have access to a smartphone and 90% have access to a laptop or computer.

TikTok has recently been under fire for its beauty filters, including the newly launched teenage filter, for fantasizing unattainable beauty standards that have been negatively affecting not only adults but teenagers as well.
