Vanessa Bryant, the wife of NBA basketball player Kobe Bryant, has settled her case against the Los Angeles County with an award of $28.85 million in damages after proving the county's negligence in sharing pictures of the 2020 plane crash claiming the lives of her husband, her 13-year old daughter Gianna Bryant and seven other victims. The pictures were shared among employees that were first responders to the scene, many of which were subsequently leaked online.
Vanessa was distressed to learn the pictures had made it online as it was a traumatic invasion of privacy.
Vanessa was previously awarded $16 million for other claims in the suit, that amount being included in the total settlement award.
Co-plaintiff Chris Chester was also awarded almost $20 million in behalf of his wife cmfd daughter that also did in the crash.
Vanessa and her daughters recently attended the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend in Utah where fellow Laker and longtime friend Pau Gasol was awarded the Kobe & Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award.
They also spent time with supporters and colleagues of the late NBA icon including Lebron James.
