King Charles III is making some changes and that includes evicting his brother, Prince Andrew, from Buckingham Palace.
The National Post reports that the King has had enough of his brother and believes he should not be taking up space in Buckingham Palace. As he is no longer performing royal duties his office was removed, and quite possibly his staff. The Royal Household will continue to foot the £3 million bill for his 24/7 protection detail. This annual cost is usually paid by taxpayers but in reality is the responsibility of Prince Andrew as he is now considered a private citizen.
This comes a week after the party prince was stripped of his title of Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, it going to Queen Consort Camilla instead.
The King recently delivered his first Christmas Broadcast where he reflected on the recent loss of his mother Queen Elizabeth II. Surprisingly, Prince Andrew was present with the rest of the family during the traditional Christmas Day walk.
In the 2022 documentary 'Prince Andrew: Banished', the less responsible prince was described as the Queen's favourite, a more controversial figure that leaned more towards the social scene than the monotony of carrying out royal duties. Scandal is not foreign to the royal member but when news broke of his close ties to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, including visits to Epstein Island, the Royal Family was unwantingly thrust into the most unflattering of spotlights. In August 2019, Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell, his death being declared a suicide by hanging.
Prince Andrew, against better judgement, attempted to clear his name of the sexual assault allegations by participating in a 2019 interview with BBC Newsnight.
The Duke of York was also embroiled in a civil case brought against him and Jeffrey Epstein by Virginia Giuffre. Giuffre alleged that the disgraced prince assaulted her on three separate occasions while being held by Epstein for sex trafficking. The matter was settled in February 2022 for £12million without an admission of guilt. Shortly after Queen Elizabeth II stripped Prince Andrew of his royal duties and military titles in an effort to create distance between Buckingham Palace and the scandal.
