After a two day trial, WNBA player Brittney Griner has pled guilty to charges of drug possession in a Russian Court.
Griner, who plays for the Phoenix Mercury, was arrested in February 2022 after cannabis vape cartridges were found in her luggage. She has been detained in Russia since then and during its conflict with Ukraine.
President Joe Biden declared that Griner was being wrongfully detained and recently assured the player's wife that he was working on her release (after criticism of lack of effort from the administration).
Griner could face up to 10 years in prison.
