White supremacist Payton Gendron was convicted in a Lake Erie Court on February 15, 2023 and sentenced to life in prison. The gunman pled guilty in November 2022 to charges including murder, terrorism and hate crimes.
In May, 2022 Gendron drove 3 hours to a Tops Friendly Market in a predominantly black neighbourhood in Buffalo. He then fired in the store, shooting and killing 10 black people.
Families of the victims made emotional statements during the sentencing with one gentleman attempting to rush the convicted racist in the courtroom.
